PRATT – HE Series Butterfly Valve
The PRATT HE Series Butterfly Valve gives industrial facilities a high-performance soft-seated butterfly valve for demanding flow control applications. Available in sizes 2” through 12”, this valve supports CL 150 and CL 300 pressure ratings across the full available size range. It comes in wafer or lug body styles, with carbon steel or stainless steel body options.
The HE Series butterfly valve uses a double offset disc and shaft design to reduce seat wear and lower operating torque. In addition, the valve includes a blowout-proof shaft design, RMTFE seat, PTFE cup and cone packing, and stainless steel bearing materials impregnated with RTFE. These features help support reliable performance in high-cycle and industrial process applications.
Westech Industrial offers PRATT HE Series butterfly valves Canada wide. Our team can help customers select the right valve configuration, body material, actuation option, and accessories for the application. We also support valve-related service needs, automation requirements, and custom fabrication projects, including assemblies and integrated systems where valves form part of a larger process solution.

Description
Double Offset Design for Lower Torque
The PRATT HE Series butterfly valve uses a double offset disc and shaft arrangement. This design helps the disc move away from the seat during the first few degrees of opening. As a result, the valve can reduce seat contact, lower operating torque, and help extend cycle life.
The angled sealing surface also supports a quick release from the seat. This matters in applications where operators need consistent valve movement and reduced seat wear over time. Because the disc moves with a camming action, the valve helps protect the sealing surface during operation.
Soft Seat Sealing Performance
The HE Series butterfly valve uses an RMTFE seat as standard. The seat locks between the body and the seat retention ring. However, it can still move under pressure. This pressure-assisted design helps create a positive seal under low and high pressures.
In addition, the spherical sealing surface uses a live-loaded spring wire behind the seat. This adds loading against the disc edge and helps maintain sealing contact. The soft-seat configuration also supports bi-directional service.
Blowout-Proof Shaft Design
PRATT engineered the shaft retention system with safety in mind. The valve uses a hardened 17-4 PH stainless steel one-piece shaft for strength and stability. The shaft retention system meets API requirements and helps keep the shaft retained above the packing.
This design matters in demanding industrial systems where hydraulic force and high torque may create additional stress on the valve. The blowout-proof shaft design gives the HE Series butterfly valve another layer of mechanical integrity.
Packing and Bearing Design for High-Cycle Use
The valve uses multi-layer PTFE cup and cone packing. This design allows even compression against the shaft and shaft journal area. It also helps create a positive seal during high-cycle operation.
The packing arrangement allows field adjustment without special tools. Also, the recessed gland packing reduces overall package height. This allows direct mounting of ISO actuators without brackets and couplers.
Full-length upper and lower bearings use 316 stainless steel impregnated with RTFE. This material helps reduce friction and side thrust. It also supports applications where corrosion resistance matters.
Flexible Body Styles and Actuation Options
The HE Series butterfly valve comes in wafer and lug body styles. Lug-style valves also support dead-end and double dead-end service. This gives facilities more flexibility when they need isolation or maintenance options.
Operators can choose from lever, worm gear, pneumatic, or electric actuation. The bonnet allows direct mounting of actuation, and standard drilling conforms to ISO 5211. Therefore, facilities can match the valve to manual or automated process requirements.
Optional features include live-loaded packing, O2 cleaning, bonnet extension, oil-free cleaning, anti-static design, silicone-free cleaning, special painting, special bolting, special packing, and NACE options.
