Westech Flame Arrester – Series 59

Series 59 “Watchdog”

The Westech Series 59 In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester is designed to provide dependable protection against deflagration, stable detonation, and overdriven detonation in industrial piping systems handling flammable gases and vapours.

In applications where detonation risks are present, flame arresters must perform reliably under high-pressure and high-velocity conditions. The Series 59 is engineered to deliver this protection through robust construction, proven design, and comprehensive testing.

Like all Westech flame arresters, the Series 59 is tested in excess of existing standards, including real-world conditions such as momentum impulse (long-run stable detonation), thermal failure, and reignition of downstream unburned gases. This ensures performance in actual operating environments—not just controlled test scenarios.

The Series 59 utilizes corrugated (crimped ribbon) 316 stainless steel elements arranged in a multiple element configuration, providing effective flame quenching while maintaining efficient vapour flow. This design supports low pressure drop and reduced fouling, helping to minimize maintenance and operational costs.

As a fully passive device, the Series 59 operates without power or controls and can be installed in a wide range of piping configurations.

Westech manufactures and supports the Series 59 globally, providing application expertise, engineering support, and servicing to ensure long-term safety and performance.
