Net Safety™ SC311 Infrared Combustible Gas Sensors
The Net Safety SC311 Infrared Combustible Gas Sensors provide fast, reliable hydrocarbon gas LEL detection for demanding industrial environments. Designed for use with the Millennium II Series transmitters, the SC311 uses infrared sensing technology to detect combustible hydrocarbon gases with strong accuracy, fast response times and long-term sensor performance.
The SC311 is well suited for facilities that require dependable fixed gas detection in hazardous or harsh operating conditions. Its infrared design is immune to poisoning and supports field-selectable gas curves for common hydrocarbon gases, including methane, propane, butane, ethane, ethylene, pentane and hexane. With a typical sensor life of 8 to 10 years, a five-year warranty, periodic bump testing and a simple annual calibration sequence, the SC311 helps reduce maintenance demands while supporting reliable site safety.
Available through Westech Industrial in BC, AB and SK, the Net Safety SC311 can be supported by our experienced technical and service teams. Westech can assist with product selection, transmitter compatibility, replacement requirements, service support and custom fabrication capabilities for integrated fixed gas detection systems and project-specific installation needs.

Description
Infrared Hydrocarbon LEL Gas Detection
The SC311 uses infrared sensing technology to detect hydrocarbon combustible gases from 0-100% LEL. This makes it a reliable option for industrial facilities that need fixed gas detection for flammable gas hazards in challenging process environments.
Field-Selectable Gas Curves
The SC311 supports field-selectable gas curves for multiple hydrocarbon gases, helping facilities configure the sensor for the gas hazard present in the application. Standard detected gases include methane, propane, n-butane, iso-pentane, n-pentane, ethane, iso-butane, ethylene and hexane.
Fast Response and Reliable Accuracy
With response times of T50 ≤ 4.3 seconds, T60 ≤ 7 seconds and T90 ≤ 11 seconds, the SC311 is designed to provide fast combustible gas detection. Accuracy is listed at ±5% LEL, with repeatability of ±2% LEL full scale.
Dual-Beam Optical Design
The sensor uses high-resolution, dual-beam optics designed to improve performance and reduce issues caused by fouling, fogging or misalignment. This design supports dependable detection while contributing to low power consumption.
Long Sensor Separation
The SC311 can be installed up to 2,000 feet / 600 metres from the transmitter using 18 AWG cabling. This provides flexibility for facilities where the best sensor location is not directly beside the transmitter.
Compatible with Millennium II Transmitters
The SC311 is designed for use with Net Safety Millennium II Series transmitters, including the M21, M22 and M2B. Facilities can use single or dual channel transmitter options depending on the number and type of sensors required.
Built for Extreme Industrial Environments
Available with aluminum or stainless steel housing options, the SC311 is designed for rugged industrial environments. The sensor is rated for operating temperatures from -40 °F to +167 °F (-40 °C to +75 °C) and relative humidity from 0-95% RH non-condensing.
Continuous Diagnostics and Environmental Compensation
The SC311 includes continuous self-checking for performance parameters and environmental compensation for temperature, pressure and humidity. These features help maintain consistent sensor reliability in changing field conditions.
Applications
The Net Safety SC311 Infrared Combustible Gas Sensor is designed for fixed gas detection applications where hydrocarbon combustible gas hazards may be present. It is a strong fit for industrial facilities that require durable LEL gas detection, flexible sensor placement and compatibility with Millennium II gas detection transmitters.
Potential applications include:
- Oil and gas processing facilities
- Petrochemical and refining environments
- Gas compression and process areas
- Industrial facilities with methane, propane, butane, ethane, ethylene, pentane or hexane hazards
- Hazardous areas requiring fixed combustible gas detection
- Remote sensor installations where transmitter separation is required
- Single or dual channel gas detection systems using Millennium II transmitters
