Spectrex™ 20/20Q Flame Detector
The Spectrex™ SharpEye™ 20/20Q Flame Detector is a QuadSense™ IR3 flame detector designed for fast, reliable hydrocarbon flame detection in commercial, public safety, infrastructure, and industrial applications where hazardous-area approvals are not required. Using four infrared bands between 4 μm and 5 μm, the 20/20Q helps distinguish real flame sources from non-flame background radiation, improving detection reliability while reducing the risk of false alarms.
With detection capabilities up to 150 ft. (45 m) for gasoline and n-heptane fires, a typical response time of less than five seconds, and five selectable sensitivity levels, the 20/20Q provides flexible coverage for a wide range of fire protection applications. Its continuous infrared Built-In Test (BIT) verifies optical and electronic integrity, while multiple output options support integration into standard safety and monitoring systems.
Available through Westech Industrial in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, the Spectrex 20/20Q can be supported by Westech’s technical service team, application knowledge, and custom fabrication capabilities. Westech can assist with detector selection, mounting considerations, control panel integration, and custom fabricated assemblies to support complete flame detection system requirements.

Description
QuadSense IR3 Flame Detection
The Spectrex 20/20Q Flame Detector uses QuadSense™ triple infrared technology with four infrared sensors. As a result, it can better separate flame signatures from non-flame background radiation. This design helps facilities improve fire detection reliability in areas with complex operating conditions. In addition, the IR3 sensing method supports dependable hydrocarbon flame detection across many public, commercial, and industrial applications.
Detection Range up to 150 ft.
The detector identifies gasoline and n-heptane fires up to 150 ft. (45 m). This range applies at the highest sensitivity setting. Therefore, the 20/20Q can help protect larger spaces, high-value assets, and open coverage areas. It also provides strong performance for several other fuels and materials, depending on the fire type.
Fast Response Time
The 20/20Q delivers a typical response time of less than five seconds. Consequently, operators can receive earlier warning when a flame event occurs. This fast response supports timely alarm activation and helps facilities act before conditions escalate.
Proven False Alarm Immunity
The infrared sensing design helps reduce nuisance alarms from non-flame radiation sources. Therefore, the detector supports more reliable operation in active environments. This false alarm immunity is especially useful in locations with lighting, movement, equipment, or reflected radiation.
Five Selectable Sensitivity Levels
The detector offers five selectable sensitivity levels from 9.8 ft. to 147.6 ft. These settings help users match detection performance to the application. For example, operators can adjust sensitivity for room size, detector placement, and coverage requirements. As a result, the Spectrex 20/20Q Flame Detector provides flexible protection across different installations.
Continuous Built-In Test
The infrared Built-In Test continuously checks the detector’s optics and electronics. This feature helps confirm device integrity during normal operation. In turn, maintenance teams gain greater confidence in the detector’s ongoing performance.
Multiple Output Options
The 20/20Q supports relay outputs, analog current output, and RS-485 Modbus® communication. Therefore, users can connect it to many monitoring and control systems. These options also make the detector suitable for both new installations and system updates.
Durable Enclosure Design
The low-copper aluminum housing includes a polyurethane-painted finish for added durability. It also carries IP66, IP68, UL50E Type 4X, and NEMA 250 6P enclosure ratings. As a result, the detector can support demanding applications where environmental protection matters.
Factory-Calibrated for Life
Spectrex factory-calibrates the detector for life use. This helps reduce routine calibration needs and supports long-term reliability. Additionally, this design can help simplify maintenance planning.
