Rosemount™ 625IR Fixed Gas Detector

The Rosemount 625IR Fixed Gas Detector is an optical infrared gas detector designed for reliable combustible hydrocarbon gas detection in harsh industrial environments. Built for demanding oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, refining, power generation, tank storage, and gas transportation applications, the Rosemount 625IR provides fast response, stable performance, and low-maintenance operation where combustible gases may be present.

Using dual-band optical absorption technology, the Rosemount 625IR detects target hydrocarbon gases by measuring how infrared light is absorbed as gas passes through the sensing path. This solid-state infrared design helps deliver dependable detection without consumable sensor components, making it well suited for hazardous locations where long-term stability, rugged construction, and reduced maintenance requirements are important.

The detector is factory calibrated for life and features continuous self-verification, no zero or span drift, heated optics, and multiple output options for integration into plant safety systems. Long probe duct-mounted versions are also available for applications where gas monitoring is required within ducts, pipes, ventilation systems, or other enclosed flow paths.

Available through Westech Industrial in BC, AB, and SK.

Description

Optical Infrared Detection for Combustible Gases

The Rosemount 625IR uses optical infrared technology to detect combustible hydrocarbon gases across a 0–100% lower explosive limit range. It is available for methane or propane detection and is designed for stable operation in rugged industrial applications where reliable gas detection is essential.

Fast Response for Critical Safety Monitoring

With a T90 response time of 2 seconds with the environment shield installed and less than 1 second without the environment shield, the Rosemount 625IR supports rapid detection of combustible gas hazards. This fast response can help operators identify potential leaks earlier and support timely safety system action.

Factory Calibration for Life

The Rosemount 625IR is calibrated at the factory and does not require field calibration. Continuous internal checks of the infrared sources and receivers help maintain calibration stability, reducing routine maintenance demands and supporting long-term detector reliability.

Heated Optics for Harsh Conditions

The detector includes heated optics to help disperse moisture from optical surfaces. This is especially valuable in outdoor industrial installations where changing temperatures, humidity, snow, rain, and moisture buildup may impact traditional detection technologies.

Continuous Self-Verification

Built-in self-diagnostics continuously verify important device functions. This helps operators monitor detector condition, plan maintenance more effectively, and reduce the risk of unexpected downtime caused by undetected device issues.

Hazardous Area and Safety Certifications

The Rosemount 625IR is approved for use in hazardous locations and is certified to Safety Integrity Level SIL2 functional safety standards. Certification options include Canada explosion-proof, US explosion-proof, ATEX flameproof, IECEx flameproof, and combined USA, Canada, ATEX, and IECEx explosion-proof approvals.

Flexible Mounting and Duct Options

The Rosemount 625IR is available as a standalone optical infrared gas detector or in duct-mounted versions with 5.9-inch or 13.8-inch extensions. Accessories such as pole mounting kits, duct flange kits, sunshade, mosquito net, environment shield, gas nozzle, bump test housings, remote bump test kit, and gas-free tester help support installation and testing needs.

Multiple Communication Outputs

The detector supports analog 4–20 mA output, HART digital communication, and RS-485 Modbus RTU for condition monitoring. This allows the Rosemount 625IR to integrate with a wide range of safety systems, control platforms, and plant monitoring architectures.

Applications

The Rosemount 625IR Fixed Gas Detector is used in industrial environments where hydrocarbon gas leaks may create combustible gas hazards. Typical applications include oil and gas facilities, offshore and onshore process facilities, pipelines, FPSOs, FLNG vessels, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, power generation facilities, tank storage and offloading areas, refineries, gas filling terminals, gas distribution facilities, gas transport systems, and hazardous industrial areas where methane or propane detection is required.

It is also suitable for duct and ventilation monitoring applications when configured with the appropriate duct-mounted version and accessories.
