Description
Bright, Continuous Visibility with NightStar LED Illuminators
NightStar LED illuminators direct a bright LED array onto a standard mechanical flag indicator. The illuminated flags remain easy to read during daytime, nighttime, and low-light operation.
Operators can verify the level without searching for a flashlight. They also avoid approaching the indicator more than necessary. The illuminator can run continuously, providing clear local indication throughout changing shifts and lighting conditions.
High-Contrast, Multi-Angle Level Indication
The illuminated design creates a clear contrast between the indicated and non-indicated portions of the level scale. In addition, the display does not depend on one narrow viewing angle.
Personnel can read the level from several positions around the equipment. This capability supports installations where piping, structures, or access routes limit the operator’s viewing position.
Less Time Spent in Process Areas
Faster visual confirmation can shorten routine inspection rounds. It can also reduce unnecessary time near active equipment, piping, or hazardous process areas.
Operators can check the liquid level more efficiently without relying on portable lighting. Consequently, the NightStar design can support safer operating practices and more efficient inspections.
Long-Life LED Operation
NightStar LED illuminators can operate continuously under normal conditions. Their estimated operating life exceeds 100,000 hours, supporting long service intervals.
The long-life LED design also reduces the need for frequent lamp replacement. This advantage can simplify maintenance planning in locations with difficult access or continuous operating schedules.
Hazardous-Area Configurations
Available NightStar configurations suit classified industrial locations. Approvals include Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups B, C, and D, with a T4 rating.
The design combines an explosion-proof power supply with an intrinsically safe lighting circuit. NEMA 4X construction provides additional protection for demanding industrial environments. Zone, IECEx, and ATEX configurations are also available.
Flexible Power Supply Mounting
The power supply normally arrives mounted on the indicator. However, installers can place it remotely when the application requires more space or easier electrical access.
The maximum distance between the power supply and light strip is 72 feet, or 22 metres. Extension cables accommodate installations where the standard cable cannot reach the selected mounting location.
Wide Temperature Capability
The NightStar system operates in ambient temperatures from -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F). It supports process temperatures up to 232°C (450°F) without an air purge kit.
For hotter applications, an air purge kit extends the process temperature capability to 316°C (600°F). This flexibility supports level indication across a broad range of industrial processes.
Retrofit Existing Magnetic Level Indicators
NightStar can be added as a field upgrade to Jerguson and other manufacturers’ magnetic level indicators by replacing the existing float and indicator assembly.
Straightforward Routine Maintenance
Routine maintenance mainly involves keeping the front window clean. Personnel can use a commercial glass cleaner while the unit remains operational.
Abrasive cleaners, wire brushes, metal scrapers, and other rough materials can scratch the window. Operators should avoid these materials during cleaning.
