Jerguson® Magnicator® Options & Accessories (Clark-Reliance)

Jerguson® Magnicator® options and accessories help magnetic level gauges perform reliably across demanding process conditions. Available configurations support high temperatures, cryogenic liquids, freezing conditions, hazardous locations and applications requiring temperature maintenance.

Hot-insulation jackets protect the gauge while allowing access to process connections, indicators, switches and transmitters. Cryogenic insulation helps maintain low process temperatures. It also creates a moisture barrier that reduces ice accumulation around the chamber.

Electric and steam heat tracing help maintain the chamber temperature during changing process or ambient conditions. Additional Magnicator accessories include non-frost extensions, magnetic particle traps and combination sight glass configurations.

Westech Industrial supplies Jerguson Magnicator accessories across Canada. Our team can help select suitable insulation, tracing and visibility options for your process. Westech also offers field service, technical support and Custom Fabrication for integrated level measurement installations.

Description

Magnicator® Accessories for High-Temperature Insulation

The removable hot-insulation jacket covers the entire magnetic level gauge. Custom openings provide access to process connections, the indicator, switches and transmitters. Therefore, operators can protect the chamber without limiting access to essential components.

The jacket uses PTFE-coated and impregnated fibreglass for durable thermal protection. Sewn-seam construction creates a secure, custom-fitted assembly for each gauge. Stainless steel grommets add strength around the closure points. In addition, polypropylene and fibreglass drawcords secure both ends.

The standard one-inch jacket supports temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). Higher-temperature requirements require application review. Since operators can remove and reuse the jacket, routine inspection and maintenance remain straightforward.

Cryogenic Insulation with Moisture Protection

Cryogenic insulation helps maintain process temperatures from 32°F (0°C) down to -250°F (-156°C). The system uses two-inch-thick polyisocyanurate foam around the gauge chamber.

A 0.016-inch aluminum jacket provides an external moisture barrier. Sealed joints further limit moisture entry. Consequently, the insulation helps reduce frost and ice buildup on the chamber and enclosed components.

When cryogenic insulation is selected, a non-frost extension is required. Although it is ordered as an optional accessory, the extension moves the indicator away from the insulated chamber. This helps maintain clear level visibility in low-temperature service.

Non-Frost Extensions for Clear Level Indication

The standard non-frost extension uses 2½-inch acrylic construction. It separates the visual indicator from the cold chamber and surrounding insulation.

This Magnicator accessory works with the Wide Indicator and supports custom sizes. Therefore, the extension can accommodate different insulation thicknesses and installation requirements.

Electric Heat Tracing for Temperature Maintenance

Electric heat tracing helps maintain the gauge chamber temperature during cold ambient conditions or heat-sensitive processes. Standard installations use two tracing passes for consistent coverage.

The electric heat trace includes a Class II configuration as standard. An optional Class I, Division 1 configuration supports qualifying hazardous locations. A thermostat can also regulate the maintained temperature.

Available systems include UL-approved NEMA 4 construction. The maximum exposure temperature reaches 375°F, while the maximum maintenance temperature reaches 250°F.

Steam Heat Tracing for Process Heating

Steam heat tracing provides another method for maintaining chamber temperature. The system uses ⅜-inch outside-diameter tubing with ⅜-inch compression fittings at both ends.

A standard installation uses four tracing passes around the chamber. This arrangement distributes heat along the gauge and supports applications with an available steam source.

Magnetic Particle Trap for Ferritic Material

The magnetic particle trap helps prevent ferritic material from collecting around the float magnets. This buildup could interfere with float movement and level indication.

The standard design uses a socket-weld tee in the lower process connection. It includes a ½-inch NPT plug and magnet. Operators can remove the plug and magnet for cleaning after isolating the gauge.

Combination Sight Glass and Magnetic Level Indicator

A combination configuration adds a glass level gauge beside the magnetic level indicator. Operators can use the glass gauge for calibration and level verification.

This option can upgrade existing sight glass installations while reducing routine glass gauge use. However, this configuration does not suit ASME Section I installations.

Applications

Jerguson Magnicator accessories support installations where temperature, moisture, visibility or process contamination could affect level indication. Westech can help match the accessory configuration to the process temperature and site requirements.

  • Cryogenic liquid storage and transfer
  • LNG and liquid nitrogen applications
  • Refrigerants and low-temperature hydrocarbons
  • High-temperature process vessels
  • Outdoor installations exposed to freezing temperatures
  • Processes requiring electric or steam temperature maintenance
  • Hazardous-area installations requiring compatible electric heat tracing
  • Applications with ferritic particles in the process media
  • Sight glass upgrades requiring magnetic level indication
  • Insulated gauges fitted with switches or transmitters

PRODUCT FAQ's

What Jerguson Magnicator accessories are available?
Available options include hot insulation, cryogenic insulation, non-frost extensions, electric heat tracing and steam heat tracing. Magnetic particle traps and combination sight glass arrangements are also available.
What temperature does the standard hot-insulation jacket support?
The standard one-inch removable jacket supports temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). Applications above this temperature require further review.
Does cryogenic insulation require a non-frost extension?
Yes. A non-frost extension is required when the Magnicator uses cryogenic insulation. Although ordered as an optional accessory, it moves the indicator away from the insulated chamber and helps maintain clear level visibility.
Can electric heat tracing support hazardous locations?
The standard electric heat trace uses a Class II configuration. An optional Class I, Division 1 configuration supports qualifying hazardous locations. Westech can help confirm the required configuration before ordering.
What is the difference between electric and steam heat tracing?
Electric tracing uses powered heating elements and can include thermostat control. Steam tracing circulates steam through ⅜-inch tubing around the chamber. The available utilities and temperature requirements usually determine the preferred method.
What does the magnetic particle trap do?
The trap collects ferritic material before it accumulates around the float magnets. Operators can remove and clean the magnet after safely isolating the gauge.
Can Westech help select the correct Magnicator accessories?
Yes. Westech Industrial can review the process temperature, ambient conditions, area classification and installed instruments. Our team can then help configure suitable insulation, tracing and visibility options.
Does Westech provide service for Jerguson Magnicator installations?
Westech provides technical support and field service for industrial level measurement applications. Our team can assist with installation planning, troubleshooting and maintenance requirements.
Can Westech Custom Fabrication integrate the gauge into a larger system?
Yes. Westech Custom Fabrication can support mounting, instrument integration and packaged system requirements. This capability helps coordinate the Magnicator, accessories and related instrumentation within one engineered solution.
