Jerguson® FlashProof™ Magnicator® Magnetic Level Gauge (Clark Reliance)

The Jerguson® FlashProof™ Magnicator® is a magnetic level gauge for boiling, flashing, dirty, and viscous process fluids. Its specialized chamber design addresses conditions that can cause traditional magnetic level indicators to provide unreliable readings.

The FlashProof magnetic level gauge uses a 3-inch Schedule 40 pipe chamber and two internal guide rods. This design creates space around the float so entrained gases can escape. The guide rods also keep the float close to the indicator, transmitter, or switches. As a result, the system maintains strong magnetic coupling and dependable level indication.

Additionally, the oversized chamber provides clearance for sludge, wax, dirt, and suspended solids. These materials can restrict float movement inside a standard chamber. A dedicated bypass zone also lets operators flush the gauge without removing the float.

The FlashProof Magnicator supports demanding process conditions, including temperatures from -325°F to 1000°F. Configurations can also accommodate pressure class ratings up to 1,919 PSIG at 100°F under ASME B31.3.

Westech Industrial offers the Jerguson FlashProof Magnicator across Canada. Our team can assist with application review, product selection, technical service, and custom fabrication. We can also help integrate the gauge with compatible indicators, transmitters, switches, and broader process systems.

Description

FlashProof™ Magnetic Level Gauge Manages Gas Buildup in Boiling Service

Large temperature differences between a vessel and an external indicator chamber can cause the chamber fluid to boil. Entrained gas may then collect beneath the float. This gas buildup can destabilize the float or cause it to sink.

The FlashProof magnetic level gauge creates a larger flow area around the float. Its 3-inch chamber and guide-rod arrangement allow entrained gases to escape safely. Consequently, the float can follow the actual liquid level more reliably.

This design supports applications where changing ambient or process temperatures create difficult boiling conditions. It also helps maintain a dependable visual reading when a conventional chamber may struggle.

Reduces Problems Caused by Flashing Vapours

Rapid depressurization can produce flashing vapours inside a magnetic level gauge. These vapours may accelerate a conventional float upward and drive it into the chamber top.

The FlashProof™ chamber provides additional internal space and a controlled path for entrained gas. Therefore, the design reduces the conditions that can cause sudden float acceleration.

This capability makes the FlashProof Magnicator well suited to light hydrocarbons, refrigerants, cryogenic fluids, and other flashing applications. It also helps protect measurement reliability during changing process conditions.

Keeps the Float Moving in Dirty or Viscous Service

Dirt, sludge, wax, and suspended solids can collect between a float and a standard chamber wall. This buildup may restrict float movement and create a false, unchanged level reading.

The oversized FlashProof chamber creates more free space around the float. Two guide rods direct the float while preventing it from binding against the chamber wall.

This design supports dirty, viscous, and solids-bearing process fluids. It can also reduce maintenance requirements in applications where deposits regularly develop.

Allows Flushing Without Removing the Float

The FlashProof™ configuration includes a bypass zone around the guided float. This open area allows operators to flush accumulated process material from the chamber.

Operators can complete this maintenance without removing the float from the column. Therefore, they can avoid unnecessary disassembly and reduce the need to replace disturbed gaskets.

Faster flushing can reduce downtime and simplify regular maintenance. This feature provides an important advantage in applications that experience sludge, wax, or solids buildup.

Maintains Focused Magnetic Coupling

The internal guide rods keep the float positioned near the external indicator, transmitter, or switches. This arrangement places the float’s magnetic field close to the required components.

The Magnicator float uses two 360-degree annular Alnico 8 ring magnets with opposing north poles. This configuration creates a strong, focused magnetic field.

As the float follows the liquid level, its magnetic field rotates the external indicator flags. The same field can also actuate compatible switches and support continuous level transmission.

Supports Demanding Pressure and Temperature Conditions

A 3-inch Schedule 40 pipe chamber comes standard with the FlashProof Magnicator. Jerguson also offers Schedule 80 and Schedule 120 chambers for higher-pressure applications.

The design complies with ASME B31.1 for power piping and ASME B31.3 for process piping. Standard configurations support pressure class ratings up to 1,919 PSIG at 100°F under ASME B31.3. Higher-pressure configurations may also be available.

The broad operating range covers temperatures from -325°F to 1000°F. This range supports cryogenic processes, light hydrocarbons, refrigerants, and high-temperature applications.

Integrates with Level Indicators, Transmitters, and Switches

The FlashProof™ Magnicator magnetic level gauge works with the full range of compatible Jerguson indicators, transmitters, and switches. Users can configure the system for local indication, continuous measurement, point-level switching, or combined functionality.

Available configurations can include a hermetically sealed flag indicator for severe environments. Cryogenic applications can also use non-frost extensions and insulation. These options help preserve gauge visibility where ice or frost could otherwise cover the indicator.

Vessel-centre dimensions range from 12 to 240 inches. Longer units may also be available after application review.

PRODUCT FAQ's

What problems does the Jerguson FlashProof Magnicator address
The FlashProof Magnicator addresses float instability caused by boiling liquids, flashing vapours, dirt, sludge, wax, and suspended solids. Its oversized chamber helps gases escape and gives the float more operating clearance.
How does the FlashProof magnetic level gauge handle boiling fluids?
The 3-inch chamber and internal guide rods create space for entrained gases to escape from beneath the float. This design helps the float follow the actual liquid level.
How does it help during flashing conditions?
Flashing vapours can rapidly propel a standard float upward during depressurization. The larger FlashProof chamber provides additional space and a controlled path for entrained gas.
Can the FlashProof Magnicator handle dirty or viscous fluids?
Yes. The oversized chamber gives sludge, wax, dirt, and suspended solids more clearance around the float. The guide rods also prevent the float from binding against the chamber wall.
Can operators flush the chamber without removing the float?
Yes. The bypass zone allows operators to flush the chamber while the float remains installed. This feature can reduce maintenance time, downtime, and gasket replacement requirements.
Can the gauge include a transmitter or level switches?
Yes. The FlashProof Magnicator supports compatible Jerguson indicators, continuous level transmitters, and magnetic switches. Westech can help select components that match the measurement and control requirements.
Is the FlashProof Magnicator suitable for cryogenic service?
The temperature range extends down to -325°F (-198°C). Available cold-service configurations can include cryogenic insulation, a non-frost extension, and a hermetically sealed flag indicator.
What pressure and temperature ranges does it support?
Standard configurations support pressure class ratings up to 1,919 PSIG at 100°F under ASME B31.3. The process temperature range extends from -325°F to 1000°F. Higher-pressure configurations may also be available.
What support does Westech Industrial provide?
Westech Industrial can assist with application review, product selection, technical support, and ongoing service. Our custom fabrication capabilities can also help integrate the gauge into complete process measurement and control solutions.
