Six Jerguson Armored Level Gages Series

The Jerguson armored level gages range includes six series for different operating conditions.

The Series 300L offers an economical design for applications requiring a 300-pound ANSI-class gage. Its proprietary 25 mm glass provides longer visible ranges within each section. Carbon steel and stainless steel chamber options support different process requirements.

The Series 20 handles many common medium-pressure applications. It uses a bar-stock chamber, recessed gasket seats and shrouded carbon steel covers. The reflex version reaches 3,270 psi at 100°F, depending on glass size.

For higher pressures, the Series 32 adds recessed mid-span supports or tie-bars. These supports increase pressure capability without creating a blind spot in the viewing area. The reflex model reaches 4,000 psi at 100°F.

The heavy-duty Series 40 handles pressures up to 5,000 psi at 100°F. It also carries a saturated steam rating of 1,500 WSP.

The Series 51 provides transparent-only indication for very high-pressure service. Socket-weld or high-pressure connections support ratings up to 10,000 psi. NPT configurations carry ratings up to 6,000 psi.

Finally, the Series L10 uses a large, two-inch inside-diameter chamber. This design helps stabilize the displayed level when liquids boil, flash or release entrained gas.

Reflex and Transparent Level Indication

Jerguson armored level gages offer reflex and transparent glass configurations, depending on the selected series.

Most series offer both options. However, Series 51 uses transparent glass only. Optional illuminators are also available for transparent gages.

Series 40 requires special consideration. Both the R-40 and T-40 use plain (transparent) glass. In addition, clear fluids may be difficult to read with the R-40 because they may not produce a silver-and-black contrast.

Continuous One-Piece Chamber Construction

Every series uses a continuous, one-piece chamber. Longer configurations use multiple vision sections within the same chamber instead of joining separate chamber pieces.

This design reduces the number of potential chamber joints. It also provides a consistent structure across long visible ranges. Depending on the series, Jerguson machines the chamber from solid bar stock or heavy-wall tubing.

The Series 51 uses solid bar stock with drilled viewing ports and intermediate tie-bars. These tie-bars resist chamber deflection under high pressure. Angled ports also promote drainage and reduce false readings caused by trapped liquid.

Recessed Gasket Seats Support Reliable Assembly

Most Jerguson armored level gages use recessed gasket seats in both the chamber and cover. The recess positions the gasket during assembly and limits sideways movement under pressure.

This construction can also simplify field repair. Technicians can service compatible gages while the chamber remains mounted to the vessel. Shrouded covers on the Series 20 and Series 32 add protection around the glass edges.

Broad Chamber Material Selection

The current specification system includes carbon steel, low-temperature carbon steel and several stainless steel grades. Additional options include Alloy 20, Alloy C276, Monel® 400, titanium and zirconium.

The guide also includes Inconel® 600, Inconel® 625, Incoloy® 825, duplex stainless steel and 254SMO. Material availability depends on the series and complete gage configuration.

Glass and Shield Options

Borosilicate glass supports many standard configurations. Aluminosilicate glass extends compatible gage service to higher temperatures. High-pressure borosilicate glass supports selected transparent configurations.

Mica shields can protect transparent glass from high-pressure steam and caustic media. PCTFE shields provide another option for processes that may chemically attack the glass.

Connections and Installation Accessories

Available connection styles include FNPT, female socket weld and raised-face ASME flanges. Side connections can support top, bottom, side or back mounting arrangements. Series 40 and Series 51 use 1/2-inch FNPT or FSW connections. Larger sizes require flanged connections.

Accessories include LED illuminators, non-frost extensions, hot or cold insulation and support brackets. Additional choices include steam tracing, electric tracing, internal heating and graduated scales. Cold insulation requires non-frost extensions.
