Jacoby-Tarbox Tubular Sight Flow Indicators (Clark Reliance)

Jacoby-Tarbox tubular sight flow indicators give operators a direct view of process flow through industrial piping. The product family includes full-view low-pressure indicators and cylindrical sheathed indicators.

Full-view models use tubular glass to provide complete 360° visibility. They suit low-pressure piping without mechanical strain. Cylindrical sheathed models add a protective body around the glass. Therefore, they suit piping that may experience some mechanical strain.

Jacoby-Tarbox offers threaded and flanged configurations for horizontal or vertical piping. Maximum pressure ratings reach 150 psig, although ratings vary by model and pipe size.

Westech Industrial can help customers compare pressure, pipe size, connection, visibility and piping conditions. Our service team also provides technical product support throughout the equipment lifecycle.

For larger project scopes, Westech’s Custom Fabrication team can integrate instrumentation into skids, packaged systems and field-ready process assemblies. Jacoby-Tarbox sight flow indicators are available Canada-wide through Westech Industrial.

Description

Full 360° Process Visibility

Full-view Jacoby-Tarbox sight flow indicators use tubular glass to provide complete 360° process visibility. Consequently, operators can observe flow from nearly any position around the pipeline.

This design provides a wider viewing area than traditional bull’s-eye indicators. It also makes flow easier to confirm when equipment placement limits the preferred viewing angle.

Models 805-S and 850-S provide threaded connections. Models 830-F and 830-FD provide flanged connections for larger pipe sizes and flanged piping systems.

Low-Pressure Full-View Models

The full-view range supports light-duty, low-pressure process applications. These models work best where the surrounding piping does not transfer mechanical strain to the indicator.

The 805-S supports pipe sizes from 1/8 inch through 2 inches. The 830-F expands the available range from 1/2 inch through 12 inches. Pressure ratings vary by pipe size and reach a maximum of 150 psig.

The 850-S uses a 5-inch outside-diameter cylinder. This larger glass section provides an expanded observation area. Available cylinder lengths reach 48 inches, with clear or graduated cylinder options.

Drip-Type Flow Observation

Jacoby-Tarbox offers dedicated drip-type versions for applications with intermittent or low-volume flow. The 805-SD provides threaded connections, while the 830-FD provides flanged connections.

A drip tube directs the process fluid into the visible area. Therefore, operators can identify individual drops or intermittent movement more easily.

These configurations can provide clearer confirmation when the process does not create an easily visible, continuous flow pattern.

Cylindrical Sheathed Protection

Cylindrical sheathed indicators combine a borosilicate glass cylinder with a surrounding body. The body protects the glass and reduces the effects of pipeline strain.

Operators can install these models in horizontal or vertical piping. The design also provides greater process visibility than many bull’s-eye indicators.

The sheathed range includes the threaded 1000-S and 4000-S models. The 860-F provides flanged connections. Together, these choices cover pipe sizes from 1/4 inch through 3 inches.

Construction Options for Different Requirements

The 1000-S and 860-F use rugged cast iron bodies. Their heads use metals selected for the specific service conditions.

The 4000-S provides a lighter construction. It uses a bronze body with heads manufactured from various service-specific metals.

In each cylindrical sheathed design, the process does not contact the surrounding body. Instead, the fluid or gas contacts the heads, glass and gasket materials. This arrangement allows users to select those components for the intended process.

Threaded and Flanged Connections

The product range supports both threaded and flanged piping systems. Threaded models include the 805-S, 805-SD, 850-S, 1000-S and 4000-S.

Flanged choices include the 830-F, 830-FD and 860-F. The 830 models use flanges drilled to match Class 150 flange patterns.

Connection options are available to ASME B2.1, B16.5, B16.24 or B16.1, as applicable. The applicable standard depends on the selected connection and construction.

Maintainable Glass Assemblies

Regular inspection helps preserve visibility and reliable operation. Operators should check the glass for leaks, clouding, scratches and other surface damage.

Commercial glass cleaners can remove deposits without scratching the surface. However, operators should avoid abrasives, wire brushes and metal scrapers.

After disassembly, technicians must install new glass and gaskets. Reusing removed components may introduce hidden damage or stress.

Applications

Jacoby-Tarbox sight flow indicators support applications that require direct visual confirmation of process movement. The selected model should match the piping layout, pressure, connection and expected mechanical strain.

  • Visual confirmation of liquid or gas movement through process piping
  • Low-pressure lines requiring wide, 360° process visibility
  • Horizontal or vertical process piping
  • Intermittent or dripping flow applications
  • Flanged process lines with pipe sizes up to 12 inches
  • Threaded process lines with smaller connection sizes
  • Piping that may transfer some mechanical strain to the indicator
  • Applications requiring more viewing area than a bull’s-eye indicator
  • Packaged systems and process skids requiring local flow indicatio

PRODUCT FAQ's

What is the difference between full-view and cylindrical sheathed sight flow indicators?
Full-view indicators maximize visibility around the complete glass cylinder. They suit low-pressure piping without mechanical strain. Cylindrical sheathed indicators add a protective body around the glass. Therefore, they suit piping that may experience some mechanical strain.
Can Jacoby-Tarbox sight flow indicators operate in horizontal piping?
Yes. Operators can install both product styles in horizontal or vertical piping. However, the installation must prevent misalignment and excessive piping stress.
What is the maximum pressure rating?
Selected models and sizes carry pressure ratings up to 150 psig. However, the maximum rating decreases for several larger pipe sizes. Always confirm the exact model, pipe size and nameplate rating before installation.
Which models provide drip-type indication?
The 805-SD provides a threaded drip-type configuration. The 830-FD provides a flanged drip-type configuration. These models help operators observe intermittent flow or individual drops more clearly.
Does the process contact the body of a cylindrical sheathed indicator?
No. In cylindrical sheathed models, the process media contacts only the heads, glass and gasket material—not the body.
Can technicians reuse the glass after disassembling the indicator?
No. Technicians must replace removed glass and gaskets during reassembly. Used components may contain damage that visual inspection cannot detect. Technicians should also inspect all seating surfaces before installing the new components.
Can Westech help select the correct model?
Yes. Westech can help compare pressure rating, pipe size, connection type, viewing area and piping strain. Our service team can also provide technical product support and coordinate assistance throughout the equipment lifecycle.
Can Westech include these indicators in a custom-fabricated system?
Yes. Westech’s Custom Fabrication team provides vendor-neutral integration using equipment from multiple manufacturers. Depending on the project, Westech can incorporate local instrumentation into skids, packaged systems and field-ready process assemblies.
Where are Jacoby-Tarbox tubular sight flow indicators available?
Jacoby-Tarbox tubular sight flow indicators are available Canada-wide through Westech Industrial.
