The Honeywell Analytics FS20X is a multi-spectrum UV/Dual IR/VIS fire and flame detector designed for fast, reliable flame detection in demanding industrial environments. Built on the proven foundation of the SS4 detector, the FS20X combines ultraviolet, visible, near band infrared and wide band infrared sensing technologies to detect both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon fires.

The FS20X is engineered to provide long-range flame detection, strong false alarm rejection and reliable operation across a wide temperature range. With selectable sensitivity settings, multiple output options, built-in diagnostics and event storage, it is well suited for hazardous industrial sites where early flame detection is critical.

Available through Westech Industrial in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Maritimes, the FS20X can be supported as part of a larger fire and gas detection strategy. Description

Multi-Spectrum UV/Dual IR/VIS Flame Detection

The FS20X flame detector uses ultraviolet, visible, Near Band IR, and WideBand IR sensing to identify radiant fire energy. Together, these technologies help the detector recognize both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon flames. This multi-spectrum design also supports dependable detection across varied industrial fire hazards. As a result, facilities can use one detector platform across many high-risk applications.

Long-Range Fire Detection

At the very high sensitivity setting, the detector can identify a 0.1 m² n-Heptane reference fire. It can do this at distances greater than 60 m / 200 ft. Therefore, the FS20X supports extended coverage in larger industrial areas. Its four selectable sensitivity settings also give users more control. Operators can adjust detection distance based on the layout, hazard, and required response strategy.

Fast Response with False Alarm Rejection

The FS20X responds quickly to real flame events while helping reject false alarm sources. Patented signal processing and Electronic Frequency Analysis help evaluate flame signatures in real time. In addition, visible sensor input helps the detector distinguish fire from non-fire radiation. This design supports reliable performance in active industrial environments. It also provides arc welding immunity for applications where nuisance alarms are a concern.

Performance in Challenging Visibility Conditions

Industrial sites often face smoke, dirt, oil, and other lens contaminants. However, the FS20X helps maintain detection capability when conditions become difficult. If the UV signal becomes reduced, its WideBand IR, Near Band IR, and visible sensors can still respond. In these conditions, response may occur at reduced sensitivity and slower speed. Even so, this added sensing capability supports dependable flame detection in real-world environments.

Configurable Outputs and Communications

The FS20X supports alarm, fault, and auxiliary relays for connection into safety systems. It also provides a user-selectable 0-20 mA analog output. Additionally, RS-485 ModBus and RS-485 FireBus II support digital communication needs. For applicable configurations, users can add HART through the FSX-A014 plug-in module. However, HART is not available on EN54-10 units.

Built-In Self-Test and Diagnostics

Automatic optical path and electronic self-testing help monitor detector health. These functions check window condition, sensor operation, and electronics performance. Moreover, FirePic™ pre-fire event storage helps support troubleshooting after an alarm. The detector also includes an event log with date and time stamps. This information helps maintenance teams review alarms, faults, and system history more effectively.

Rugged Industrial Design

The FS20X flame detector is available with copper-free powder coated aluminum or 316 stainless steel enclosure options. These enclosure choices support use in demanding industrial and hazardous locations. Furthermore, IP66, NEMA 4, and NEMA 4X ratings help protect the detector outdoors. This rugged construction supports reliable operation in harsh plant, process, and storage environments.

Field-Friendly Installation and Maintenance

Plug-in terminations help simplify field wiring and installation. Selectable configuration switches allow users to adjust sensitivity, relay behaviour, and communication settings. Meanwhile, bright green, red, and yellow LEDs provide quick status visibility. These indicators show normal operation, alarm, and fault conditions. Optional swivel bracket mounting also helps installers aim the detector toward the protected hazard area.
