The PFS WM Wedge Flow Meter provides reliable differential pressure flow measurement for challenging liquid and gas applications. Its V-shaped restriction creates a measurable pressure difference as fluid passes through the meter. The system then uses this differential pressure to calculate the flow rate.
Unlike many conventional flow technologies, the PFS wedge flow meter can handle demanding process conditions. It measures dirty fluids, suspended solids, entrained gases, slurries and viscous liquids. Therefore, it suits applications where plugging, erosion or changing fluid properties may affect other meters.
The WM design contains no moving parts, which helps extend service life and reduce maintenance requirements. It also offers lower susceptibility to erosion. For highly abrasive services, hard-clad interior surfaces can provide added protection.
The meter supports line sizes from 1/2 inch to 30 inches. Several end connection styles are available, including flanged, threaded, wafer, Victaulic and butt-weld configurations. In addition, users can select from many construction materials for corrosive, abrasive or specialized process conditions.
Westech Industrial offers the PFS WM Wedge Flow Meter Canada-wide. Our team can help evaluate process conditions, materials, connection styles and measurement requirements. Westech’s service and Custom Fabrication capabilities can also support instrument integration, piping assemblies and complete flow measurement solutions.

Description
Reliable Measurement for Difficult Process Fluids
The PFS wedge flow meter handles liquids and gases across a broad range of process applications. Its wedge-shaped restriction creates a differential pressure without using rotating or reciprocating components. As a result, the design can measure fluids that contain suspended solids or entrained gases.
The open flow path also makes the meter well suited to slurries and dirty fluids. These process streams may create plugging or wear concerns for other primary flow elements. Furthermore, the wedge design supports measurement of highly viscous, corrosive and abrasive liquids.
Stable Performance at Lower Reynolds Numbers
The PFS WM Wedge Flow Meter delivers stable performance down to a pipe Reynolds number of 5,000. For basic accuracy, the Reynolds number must remain above 5,000.
When an application operates below this level, laboratory flow calibration can help maintain measurement accuracy. This capability makes the meter well suited to viscous liquids and other low-Reynolds-number applications.
No Moving Parts for Longer Service Life
The wedge meter has no moving internal components. Therefore, it avoids bearing, rotor and mechanical wear associated with some flow measurement technologies.
This simple construction can deliver a medium-to-long service life, depending on the application. It also reduces routine maintenance requirements. Additionally, the wedge design offers lower susceptibility to erosion than many conventional restriction devices.
For severe abrasive or erosive service, hard-clad interior surfaces are available. This added protection can help preserve the meter’s internal geometry and extend operating life.
Flexible Installation and Flow Direction
The PFS wedge flow meter can mount in any position. This flexibility helps engineers work around piping layouts, space restrictions and existing process equipment.
The meter can also support bidirectional flow measurement. Therefore, it suits systems where the flow direction changes during operation, cleaning or transfer processes.
Installation requires 10 pipe diameters of straight piping upstream and two diameters downstream. Following these requirements helps create suitable flow conditions for accurate differential pressure measurement.
Multiple Pressure Connection Options
Several pressure measurement connections are available. Options include NPT couplings, socket-weld couplings and flanged connections.
These configurations can support conventional impulse piping or diaphragm-seal transmitters. Diaphragm seals may provide additional benefits when measuring slurries, viscous fluids or process media that could obstruct standard pressure connections.
Broad Material Selection
Carbon steel and 304 or 316 stainless steel serve as common construction materials. However, specialized process conditions may require additional corrosion or abrasion resistance.
Available material options include aluminum, Monel, tantalum, zirconium, duplex stainless steel, 321 stainless steel, Hastelloy B and C, and titanium. This wide selection helps match the meter to the chemical properties and operating demands of the process fluid.
Several End Connection Configurations
The WM Series includes several model styles for new piping systems and retrofit projects. Available configurations include flanged, threaded, wafer, Victaulic and butt-weld ends.
These choices simplify integration into different piping standards and plant layouts. Moreover, Westech can help select a configuration that fits the process, installation and maintenance requirements.
Wide Turndown and Repeatable Measurement
The wedge design provides a wide turndown ratio for applications with changing flow rates. It also offers repeatability of ±0.2%.
Wet-calibrated meters provide higher basic accuracy than uncalibrated units. For line sizes from 1 to 30 inches, wet-calibrated accuracy reaches ±0.50% of total flow. The 1/2-inch model provides wet-calibrated accuracy of ±0.75%.
Uncalibrated meters from 1 to 30 inches provide accuracy of ±3.00%. The uncalibrated 1/2-inch model provides accuracy of ±5.00%. These defined accuracy options help users select the appropriate configuration for their measurement requirements.
