Jacoby-Tarbox GRQ Engineered HYGIENIC Clamps (Clark Reliance)

Jacoby-Tarbox GRQ Engineered Hygienic Clamps deliver uniform gasket compression with minimized gasket intrusion. This controlled loading helps protect process integrity across demanding hygienic service applications.

The patented design combines a Block A clamp profile, double-pin hinge, and flat nut seat. Together, these features support even radial loading and greater flexibility for challenging alignments. GRQ hygienic clamps also reduce the torque required to seal the gasket. Therefore, they can lower clamp stress and support longer joint life.

Jacoby-Tarbox offers ergonomic wing-nut and hex-nut versions. Standard clamps use 304 stainless steel, while 316 stainless steel remains available by special order. The range covers small tubing connections through 12-inch Schedule V sizes. However, allowable pressure depends on the selected clamp size.

Specialty configurations support rupture discs, thermal cycling, vibration, and connection security. These options help facilities match the clamp design to specific process requirements.

Westech Industrial supplies Jacoby-Tarbox GRQ hygienic clamps across Canada. Our team can support product selection, replacements, upgrades, and broader service requirements. Westech can also support projects that include custom fabrication and process integration.

Description

FEA-Optimized Clamp Geometry

Jacoby-Tarbox engineers used Finite Element Analysis to optimize gasket load and clamp geometry. The resulting design combines a Block A channel profile, double-pin hinge, and flat nut seat.

Together, these features create uniform radial loading around the hygienic joint. The design also reduces concentrated point loads that can bend the joint or create gaps.

Uniform Gasket Compression with Less Torque

GRQ hygienic clamps direct force toward a discrete contact point near the inside diameter. This approach concentrates sealing energy where the gasket needs it.

As a result, the clamp can seal the gasket with less torque. Lower torque also reduces clamp stress and supports longer joint and gasket life. Moreover, uniform compression lowers the chance of gasket intrusion into the process bore.

Flexibility for Challenging Alignments

Hygienic connections do not always align perfectly during installation or maintenance. Therefore, the large Block A profile provides added clearance for less-than-perfect joints.

The double-pin hinge also helps the clamp accommodate alignment variation. Additionally, the profile accepts flanged or lipped gaskets without interfering with the seal.

Flat Nut Seat Protects Clamp Components

The flat nut seat and pocket transfer load without deforming the clamp fork, lug, or arm. This design helps prevent bending caused by overtightening or uneven loading. It also keeps the nut seated more securely during clamp-up.

Wing Nut and Hex Nut Options

Jacoby-Tarbox offers GRQ engineered hygienic clamps with an ergonomic wing nut or a hex nut. The tapered wing nut provides an easy grip for manual tightening.

In contrast, the hex nut supports controlled tightening with a torque wrench and socket. Both versions use the same optimized clamp geometry.

Specialty Clamps for Demanding Service

The GRQ-RD configuration supports rupture discs and bursting disks. It includes relief for the disc tab, tag extension, and sensing wires. The design maintains contact around more than 340 degrees of the ferrule.

This 316 stainless steel clamp includes a hex nut and covers sizes from 1 to 4 inches. The Block A profile also accommodates specialty rupture-disc gaskets, including metal-filled PTFE materials.

The GRQ-LL live-load option supports systems exposed to thermal cycling or vibration. It maintains force at the clamp forks as metal expands, contracts, or vibrates. Therefore, it suits demanding steam-in-place systems and other dynamic applications.

GRQ SafeGuard for Connection Security

The optional GRQ SafeGuard creates a tamper-resistant hygienic union. Aligned security holes accept tags, locks, or other securing devices.

The cross pin also limits nut travel and helps maintain the selected seal load. SafeGuard sizes cover mini clamps, 1 through 5-inch clamps, and clamps 6 inches or larger.

PRODUCT FAQ's

What makes GRQ hygienic clamps different from typical hygienic clamps?
The Block A profile creates even radial gasket loading around the connection. A double-pin hinge adds alignment flexibility. Meanwhile, the flat nut seat reduces deformation at the clamp arm.
Can GRQ clamps accommodate imperfect alignment?
The large channel profile and double-pin hinge provide clearance for less-than-perfect alignments. The profile also accepts flanged or lipped gaskets without interfering with the seal.
Should I choose a wing nut or hex nut?
Choose the ergonomic wing nut for convenient manual tightening. Choose the hex nut when the procedure requires a torque wrench and socket. Westech can help match the closure to your maintenance practices.
What materials and sizes are available?
Jacoby-Tarbox supplies 304 stainless steel as standard. The manufacturer offers 316 stainless steel by special order. Sizes range from ½-inch and ¾-inch OD connections through 12-inch Schedule V.
Do all clamp sizes have the same pressure rating?
No. Maximum ratings decrease as clamp size increases. Ratings range from 725 psig at smaller sizes to 131 psig for 12-inch Schedule V. Always select the clamp using the exact size, ferrule, pressure, and process conditions.
Which GRQ option supports thermal cycling or vibration?
The GRQ-LL live-load option maintains force at the clamp forks during thermal expansion or vibration. This option supports demanding steam-in-place and dynamic service conditions.
Is a GRQ clamp available for rupture discs?
Yes. The GRQ-RD supports rupture discs and bursting disks from 1 to 4 inches. Its relief accommodates the tab extension and sensing wires. The 316 stainless steel design also includes a hex nut.
What does the GRQ SafeGuard do?
The SafeGuard adds tamper resistance to a GRQ hygienic union. It accepts locks, tags, or other securing devices through aligned holes. Its cross pin limits nut travel and helps preserve the selected compression.
How can Westech Industrial support a GRQ clamp project?
Westech supplies GRQ hygienic clamps Canada-wide for new installations, replacements, and process upgrades. Our team can assist with sizing, materials, nut style, specialty options, and accessory selection. Westech also provides service support, system integration, and custom fabrication for broader project requirements.
How do I select the correct GRQ clamp?
Confirm the tube OD, schedule or DN, ferrule flange OD, material, pressure, and preferred nut style. Also identify any alignment, vibration, thermal cycling, rupture disc, or security requirements. Westech can review these details and recommend an appropriate configuration.
