Cornerstone TE-1 & TE-3 Top Entry Ball Valves

Cornerstone top-entry ball valves provide reliable isolation for severe service applications with demanding pressure, temperature, and process conditions. The TE-1 and TE-3 use trunnion-mounted ball designs with bi-directional shut-off.

The TE-1 combines a one-piece valve body with top-entry access through the bonnet. Its design allows in-line maintenance without removing the complete valve from the piping system. Sizes range from 1.5 inches through 26 inches.

The TE-3 uses a rigid three-piece bolted body for strength and configuration flexibility. It provides the same trunnion-mounted, bi-directional operating concept in sizes up to 4 inches or 4-1/16 inches.

Both designs support ANSI/ASME pressure classes from 150 through 4500. API pressure classes from 2000 through 15000 are also available. Their wide temperature capability spans cryogenic conditions down to -320°F and high-temperature service up to +1500°F.

Cornerstone uses pre-loaded, pressure-assisted seating to maintain consistent seating forces. Trunnion bearing supports maintain alignment and help reduce ball and seat torque. In addition, engineered stem and seat seals allow configurations to match specific operating requirements.

Customers can select soft-seated or metal-seated configurations, various materials, specialized coatings, and multiple actuation methods. Options also support demanding applications involving solids, steam, cryogenic fluids, abrasive media, subsea service, and high-pressure gases.

Westech Industrial can help customers evaluate valve size, pressure class, temperature, materials, seating, end connections, and actuation requirements. Our valve service capabilities also support inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, assembly, and actuator requirements.

For larger projects, Westech can integrate Cornerstone top entry ball valves into custom-fabricated systems. These solutions can include process piping, instrumentation, controls, skids, enclosures, buildings, and other supporting equipment.

Description

Top-Entry Access for Easier Maintenance

Cornerstone designed the TE-1 for true in-line repairability through the bonnet. Maintenance teams can access internal components without cutting the complete valve body from the pipeline.

This design can simplify maintenance on welded or difficult-to-access process piping. It also reduces the disruption associated with removing an entire valve from service.

The TE-3 can also support in-line repairability as part of its available configuration options.

Trunnion-Mounted, Bi-Directional Shut-Off

Both top entry ball valves use a trunnion-mounted design with bi-directional shut-off capability.

Trunnion supports keep the ball properly aligned during operation. They also help reduce ball and seat operating torque.

This construction makes the valves suitable for demanding pressure conditions where stable ball positioning matters.

Pre-Loaded, Pressure-Assisted Seating

Cornerstone uses pre-loaded, pressure-assisted seating to maintain consistent contact between the ball and seats.

The design prevents lateral ball movement along the flow bore. Pre-loading also provides more uniform operating torque.

As process pressure increases, pressure assistance supports tighter sealing. Therefore, the seating arrangement combines controlled movement with reliable shut-off performance.

One-Piece TE-1 Body Construction

The TE-1 uses a one-piece body for a strong and simplified pressure boundary.

Cornerstone pairs this construction with a solid one-piece ball and stem trunnion design. This approach reduces unnecessary complexity while supporting accurate component alignment.

A metal-to-metal body and bonnet seal also provides reliable, fire-safe sealing.

Rigid Three-Piece TE-3 Construction

The TE-3 uses a rigid bolted three-piece body.

This design provides strength while offering additional versatility for smaller severe-service applications. Cornerstone combines the bolted body with a solid one-piece ball and stem trunnion arrangement.

The TE-3 also uses engineered stem and seat seals for application-specific requirements.

Cryogenic to High-Temperature Capability

The TE-1 and TE-3 support an exceptionally broad temperature range.

Configurations can operate down to -320°F for cryogenic applications. At the other end of the range, options support temperatures up to +1500°F.

This flexibility makes the valves suitable for applications ranging from LNG service to high-temperature steam.

Soft-Seated and Metal-Seated Options

Cornerstone offers both soft-seated and metal-seated configurations.

Soft seats support bubble-tight shut-off requirements in suitable applications. Metal seats provide options for higher temperatures, abrasive media, and other demanding services.

Metal-seated designs can meet ANSI/FCI 70.2 Class V and VI leakage requirements, depending on model and configuration.

Double Block and Bleed Capability

Double block and bleed configurations are available for applications requiring additional isolation capability.

The TE-1 lists double block and bleed as standard, with a twin-ball configuration also available. The TE-3 also offers double block and bleed as an available option.

This capability can support applications where process isolation and controlled pressure release are important.

Engineered Stem and Seat Sealing

Cornerstone engineers stem and seat sealing according to application requirements.

Available configurations can include secondary and tertiary stem seals. This allows customers to match sealing arrangements to process media, pressure, temperature, and operating conditions.

Fire-safe sealing configurations are also available.

Severe-Service Material Selection

Cornerstone offers a broad selection of valve materials.

Options include carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, chrome molybdenum, nickel-based alloys, and titanium-based alloys. Other exotic alloys are also available upon request.

CRA overlay options can include 316 stainless steel and Inconel 625, depending on the valve model and configuration.

Options for Solids and Abrasive Service

Cornerstone offers solids-proof configurations for challenging process media.

Applications can include ore slurries, sewage, sludge, polymers, and abrasive services. Various ball coatings are also available, including HVOF coatings for the TE-1.

These options help protect critical valve surfaces in difficult process conditions.

Steam Purge Capability

Steam purge ports are available for both valve platforms.

They can support applications where operators need to manage deposits, contaminants, or process material around critical valve components.

Steam purge capability can provide an additional maintenance and operating option for severe-service installations.

Manual or Automated Operation

The TE-1 and TE-3 support several operating methods.

Customers can select manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric actuation. Therefore, the valves can integrate into both manually operated systems and automated process control applications.

Westech can also help review actuator requirements as part of the overall valve selection process.

Subsea Options

Cornerstone offers configurations for subsea service.

TE-1 options include shallow and deepwater applications, with subsea configurations hyperbaric tested to depths up to 11,000 feet.

Cornerstone also offers subsea capability for the TE-3, depending on project requirements.
