Cornerstone SB2 Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve
The Cornerstone SB2 trunnion ball valve provides dependable bi-directional isolation for demanding industrial applications. Its two-piece, centre-split body combines strength with a stable trunnion-mounted ball design.
Cornerstone uses a solid, one-piece ball, stem and trunnion assembly. This construction maintains stability across changing pressures and supports consistent valve operation. Trunnion bearing supports also maintain alignment while reducing ball and seat torque.
The SB2 uses pre-loaded, pressure-assisted seating with bi-directional sealing. Pre-loading helps maintain uniform torque while pressure assistance strengthens the seal. The design also limits lateral ball movement along the flow bore.
Cornerstone further protects critical components through minimal clearance between the body and ball. This design reduces areas where process debris and residue can accumulate. Dedicated dirt seals also help prevent foreign material from entering critical bearing and sealing areas.
The SB2 trunnion mounted ball valve supports ANSI sizes from 1 to 32 inches. Pressure ratings range from ANSI/ASME Class 150 through 1500. The operating temperature range extends from -320°F to +1200°F. Cornerstone also offers soft-seated and metal-seated configurations for different process conditions.
Available materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, chrome molybdenum, nickel-based alloys and titanium-based alloys. Cornerstone can also provide other exotic alloys upon request.
Westech Industrial can help review operating pressure, temperature, process media, valve size, materials, seating and actuation requirements. Our team can also support service requirements throughout the equipment lifecycle.
For larger projects, Westech can incorporate Cornerstone valves into custom-fabricated industrial solutions. These projects can combine valves with piping, instrumentation, controls, skids, enclosures, buildings and supporting equipment.

Description
Solid One-Piece Ball, Stem and Trunnion Design
Cornerstone manufactures the SB2 with a solid one-piece ball, stem and trunnion assembly.
This construction creates a stable internal assembly that maintains its position as process pressure changes. As a result, the valve supports consistent operation in demanding services.
Cornerstone specifically designed this arrangement to provide long-term stability and service life.
Trunnion-Mounted Ball for Stable Operation
The trunnion-mounted design supports the ball at critical points instead of relying entirely on the valve seats.
Trunnion bearing supports maintain proper alignment during valve movement. They also reduce ball and seat torque.
Therefore, the design can provide smoother valve operation across demanding pressure conditions.
Pre-Loaded, Pressure-Assisted Bi-Directional Seating
The SB2 uses pre-loaded seats with pressure-assisted sealing.
Pre-loading maintains more uniform operating torque. Meanwhile, process pressure helps increase the sealing force against the ball.
The design also prevents lateral ball movement along the flow bore. Consequently, the SB2 provides reliable bi-directional shut-off.
Continuous Body Seal Through the Stem Area
Cornerstone extends the body seal continuously through the stem area.
This approach creates a reliable sealing arrangement around a critical valve interface. It also complements the SB2’s two-piece centre-split body design.
Cornerstone developed the sealing system for demanding industrial applications where reliable isolation matters.
Minimal Body-to-Ball Clearance
The SB2 minimizes clearance between the valve body and ball.
Reducing unnecessary internal space limits areas where debris and process residue can collect. This becomes particularly useful in applications involving contaminated or solids-bearing media.
Less accumulation can also support smoother valve movement and easier operation.
Dirt Seals Protect Critical Components
Cornerstone incorporates dedicated dirt seals into the SB2 design.
These seals help prevent foreign debris from entering important bearing and sealing areas. Therefore, critical components receive additional protection from process contamination.
This feature works with the minimal-clearance design to support reliable operation in challenging process conditions.
Engineered Stem and Fugitive Emissions Sealing
Cornerstone can engineer the stem and fugitive emissions sealing arrangement to meet customer requirements.
ISO 15848 fugitive emissions qualification is also available. Secondary and tertiary stem seals can provide additional sealing options for demanding applications.
Soft-Seated or Metal-Seated Configurations
Customers can select either soft-seated or metal-seated SB2 configurations.
Soft-seated designs can provide bubble-tight shut-off. Metal-seated versions support ANSI/FCI 70.2 Class V and VI leakage requirements.
This flexibility allows the valve seating arrangement to better match temperature, media and leakage requirements.
Wide Temperature Capability
The SB2 operates across a broad temperature range.
Configurations support temperatures from -320°F through +1200°F. Therefore, customers can consider the valve for both cryogenic and elevated-temperature applications.
Final material, seat and sealing selections should match the specific operating conditions.
Multiple End Connection Options
Cornerstone offers several SB2 piping connection configurations.
Available connections include socket weld, butt weld, RF flanged, RTJ and FF configurations. The valve references ANSI B16.5 and ANSI B16.25 connection standards.
This selection provides flexibility when integrating the SB2 into new or existing piping systems.
Double Block and Bleed Option
Double block and bleed capability is available for the SB2.
This option can provide additional isolation for applications requiring controlled separation of process sections.
Steam purge ports are also available for process or maintenance requirements.
Ball Coatings and CRA Overlays
Cornerstone offers various ball coatings for demanding process environments.
CRA overlays are also available when an application requires additional corrosion resistance or specialized wetted surfaces.
These options allow engineers to tailor the valve more closely to specific media and service conditions.
Broad Material Selection
SB2 material options include carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, chrome molybdenum, nickel-based alloys and titanium-based alloys.
Cornerstone can also provide other exotic alloys upon request.
This material flexibility supports projects involving challenging temperatures, pressures, corrosion concerns and process media.
Manual or Automated Actuation
The Cornerstone SB2 supports several actuation methods.
Available options include manual, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric operation.
Westech can help review valve operating conditions and actuator requirements when selecting a complete valve configuration.
