The PFS Wedge-X Flow Meter (WX) provides compact differential pressure flow measurement in a complete pipeline assembly. Its design builds on proven wedge meter technology. However, it adds a directly coupled differential pressure transmitter connection and a replaceable restriction wedge.
The replaceable wedge gives operators greater flexibility throughout the meter’s service life. Users can replace a worn wedge without replacing the complete flow meter. They can also install a different wedge size to increase or decrease the generated differential pressure.
PFS can supply the Wedge-X complete with a differential pressure transmitter. Therefore, the assembled meter only requires installation into the process pipeline. This integrated design reduces the need to source separate components. It also removes the need to assemble external impulse lines and reduces potential leak points.
The meter handles clear liquids, viscous liquids, slurries, suspended solids, gas and steam. In addition, its unobstructed flow path and lack of moving parts support reliable performance in demanding process conditions.
Westech Industrial supplies the PFS Wedge-X Flow Meter throughout Canada. Our team can assist with meter selection, application review, instrumentation integration and ongoing service requirements. Westech’s Custom Fabrication team can also support complete flow measurement assemblies and application-specific system integration.

Description
Compact, Integrated Flow Measurement
The Wedge-X combines its primary flow element, restriction wedge and transmitter connection within one compact assembly. PFS can also supply the meter with a directly coupled differential pressure transmitter.
This integrated arrangement simplifies procurement because operators do not need to source several separate components. It also reduces field assembly requirements. As a result, installation teams can avoid the time associated with routing and connecting conventional impulse lines.
Fewer external connections can also reduce potential leak points. Therefore, the Wedge-X offers a practical approach for applications where installation space, assembly time or connection integrity matter.
Replaceable Restriction Wedge
The replaceable restriction wedge distinguishes the Wedge-X from conventional fixed-wedge designs. Operators can remove and replace the wedge if process conditions cause wear or erosion.
This feature can extend the useful life of the complete meter. Rather than replacing the entire assembly, the operator can address wear at the restriction element.
The replaceable wedge also supports changing process requirements. A different wedge size can increase or decrease the differential pressure generated at a given flow rate. Consequently, facilities can adapt the meter when operating conditions or measurement requirements change.
Suitable for Challenging Process Fluids
The Wedge-X Flow Meter can measure several fluid types. These include clear liquids, viscous liquids, slurries and liquids containing suspended solids. The meter can also serve gas and steam applications.
Its wedge-shaped restriction creates a flow path that supports applications involving abrasive, corrosive or high-viscosity liquids. In addition, the design has no moving parts. This construction reduces mechanical wear and supports medium-to-long service life, depending on the application.
Reduced Susceptibility to Erosion
The meter’s geometry provides lower susceptibility to erosion than many conventional restriction designs. However, severe service conditions can still cause wear over time.
The replaceable wedge helps address this challenge. Maintenance teams can replace the restriction element when required while retaining the main meter body. This approach can reduce replacement costs and process downtime.
Wide Turndown and Strong Repeatability
The Wedge-X provides a wide turndown ratio for changing process flow conditions. It also delivers repeatability of ±0.2%.
For basic accuracy, the pipe Reynolds number must remain above 5,000. Wet-calibrated meters provide basic accuracy of ±0.50% of total flow. Uncalibrated meters provide basic accuracy of ±3.00% of total flow.
Flexible Installation Orientation
The Wedge-X can mount in any position. This flexibility helps installers accommodate different pipeline layouts and available space.
The design can also support bidirectional flow measurement. However, the complete installation and instrumentation arrangement must suit the intended flow direction and application.
The meter requires 10 pipe diameters of straight piping upstream and two diameters downstream. Following these requirements helps maintain the stated measurement performance.
Multiple Process Connections
PFS offers the Wedge-X with several connection styles. Available models include threaded, flanged, wafer and Victaulic-end configurations.
These options help facilities match the meter to existing piping standards. Available construction materials include carbon steel and 316 stainless steel.
