PFS CDS1000 Cryogenic Flow Totalizer

The PFS CDS1000 Cryogenic Flow Totalizer provides real-time measurement, compensation, control and delivery reporting. This microcontroller-based rate/totalizer calculates temperature and pressure effects on volumetric or mass measurements.

The operating screen clearly presents essential delivery information. Operators can view temperature, pressure, flow rate, fluid density and compensated volume. Additional detail screens provide operating data, alarms and diagnostic information. Therefore, operators can identify system conditions without navigating complex menus.

The CDS1000 provides programmable two- to ten-point flow meter linearization. This feature helps match the monitor to the connected meter’s performance across its operating range. The system works seamlessly with TMC cryogenic flow meters. However, it also accepts signals from other frequency-generating flow devices.

Integrated pump controls help protect valuable delivery equipment. The CDS1000 can control the pump using product temperature or pump housing temperature. Optional pressure monitoring adds protection based on pump discharge or differential pressure.

NTEP, OIML and MID certifications support cryogenic liquid transfer and custody transfer applications. Users can also connect a handheld Bluetooth printer or stationary RS232 printer. These options support point-of-sale tickets and delivery documentation.

Westech Industrial supplies the PFS CDS1000 Cryogenic Flow Totalizer across Canada. Our team can assist with product selection, system integration, troubleshooting and ongoing service. Westech also provides custom fabrication for mounting, controls, enclosures and complete packaged measurement systems.

Description

Real-Time Compensated Flow Measurement

The CDS1000 continuously calculates how temperature and pressure affect measured volume or mass. As conditions change, the monitor updates the computed delivery value in real time.

The display gives operators immediate access to key transfer information. Available parameters include flow rate, pressure, temperature, fluid density and compensated volume. The system also maintains a resettable delivery total and a non-resettable grand total.

Operators can toggle the delivery total between metered and base conditions. This capability provides greater flexibility when reviewing or documenting cryogenic liquid deliveries.

Programmable Flow Meter Linearization

The cryogenic flow totalizer supports programmable two- to ten-point flow meter linearization. This function allows the system to account for meter performance across multiple flow points.

The CDS1000 stores an average K-factor and a programmable linearization table. Therefore, operators can configure the monitor for the connected flow meter and application.

A dedicated Prove mode also supports calibration work. Password protection limits access to settings that could affect measurement or calibration. In addition, the system maintains an audit trail for sealable metrological parameters.

Broad Flow Meter Compatibility

The CDS1000 integrates directly with TMC cryogenic turbine flow meters. It also accepts signals from other frequency-generating flow devices, including competitive turbine meters.

The amplifier accepts frequencies from 0 to 2,500 Hz. Pickup coil monitoring detects open or shorted coil conditions. As a result, operators receive an early warning when the system identifies a signal problem.

This compatibility makes the CDS1000 suitable for new delivery systems and existing flow meter upgrades.

Temperature-Based Pump Protection

Cryogenic pumps require suitable operating temperatures before product transfer begins. The CDS1000 helps protect pump seals by monitoring either product temperature or pump housing temperature.

Operators can configure the pump control relay for the required cooldown conditions. The system can delay pump operation until the selected temperature reaches the programmed value.

This control helps reduce the risk of operating the pump before adequate cooldown. It also supports more consistent delivery procedures.

Optional Pressure-Based Pump Control

Optional pressure monitoring provides another layer of pump protection. The CDS1000 accepts a two-wire, 4–20 mA pressure transducer input.

Operators can configure minimum delivery start pressure, pressure timing and shutdown pressure. The monitor can also supervise pump discharge or differential pressure, depending on the configuration.

When pressure falls outside the programmed limits, the system can activate an alarm or disable the pump. Consequently, the CDS1000 helps protect pumps and delivery system components.

Clear Graphic Display and Operator Controls

The CDS1000 uses a 240 × 128 full graphic LCD with a backlight. Auto-bias control supports clear viewing as operating conditions change.

A temperature-activated, non-sweating display heater supports operation in cold environments. The sealed, oil-resistant keypad includes 16 buttons, four softkeys and a separate power button.

Front-panel LEDs provide quick system status information. Blue indicates power, white indicates a flow signal and red indicates an alarm.

Diagnostics and Maintenance Support

Built-in diagnostics monitor the CDS1000 hardware, power supply, sensors and input signals. The system performs a self-test during startup and continues monitoring during operation.

Alarm and detail screens help operators identify faults. The system can detect low input power, a low backup battery and flow meter pickup coil problems. It can also identify open or shorted temperature and pressure circuits.

Pump, turbine and system operating records support preventive maintenance planning. Programmable maintenance reminders help users track service intervals.

Bluetooth, RS232 and Ticket Printing

The CDS1000 supports Bluetooth and RS232 communications. Users can connect a handheld Bluetooth printer or stationary RS232 printer for delivery ticket printing.

The system provides configurable ticket fields and print formats. Available information can include the product, temperature, delivery total, meter number, trailer number and delivery number.

This functionality supports custody transfer records, point-of-sale documentation and customer delivery receipts.

Backup Power and System Monitoring

The CDS1000 operates from a 9–26 VDC external power supply. It continuously monitors the main power source and internal backup battery.

A rechargeable NiMH battery maintains operation for up to ten seconds after external power loss. During backup operation, the processor turns off the display backlight to conserve power.

The system shuts down automatically after ten seconds without external power. This controlled response helps preserve delivery information during brief interruptions.
