Penberthy Series 100, 200, 300 & 400 Flat Glass Gauge Valves

Penberthy Series 100, 200, 300 and 400 Flat Glass Gauge Valves help isolate gauge glass, magnetic gauges, or other connected apparatus from a vessel when draining, servicing, or maintenance work must take place. Also known as armored gaugecocks, these valves come in upper and lower pairs and support process vessel connections through NPT, flanged, and socketweld configurations.

Series 100 and 200 models use a straight pattern body. Series 300 and 400 models use an offset pattern body with a 90° connection to the process vessel. This offset design helps make gauge chamber cleaning easier, since maintenance teams can access a straighter cleaning path through the gauge chamber.

These flat glass gauge valves include options for union or rigid gauge connections, integral or union bonnet designs, and integral or threaded renewable seats. Standard process-use configurations include ball check shut-offs, which help reduce rapid fluid loss if accidental gauge glass breakage occurs. Certain configurations can also support ASME steam service requirements.

Westech Industrial offers Penberthy Series 100, 200, 300 and 400 flat glass gauge valves in Western Canada, including BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Our team can help with product selection, service support, replacement planning, and project requirements. In addition, Westech’s custom fabrication capabilities can support integrated level measurement packages, process assemblies, and site-specific installation needs.

Description

Straight and Offset Pattern Options

Penberthy Series 100, 200, 300 and 400 flat glass gauge valves give teams multiple configuration choices. Series 100 and 200 models use a straight pattern body. Meanwhile, Series 300 and 400 models use an offset pattern body. This offset pattern provides a 90° connection to the process vessel and helps isolate the gauge chamber from the vessel contents. As a result, operators can select the pattern that best suits the layout, access needs, and service conditions of the installation.

Ball Check Shut-Off Protection

Standard process-use configurations include automatic ball check shut-offs. If gauge glass breaks, the pressure drop causes the ball checks to seat. This action helps prevent rapid loss of tank contents. During normal liquid level readings, the gaugecock stem helps unseat the ball so liquid can pass into the gauge column. Therefore, the valve supports both routine visibility and added protection during unexpected glass failure.

Multiple Gauge and Vessel Connections

These flat glass gauge valves support a wide range of gauge and vessel connection options. Available connection types include NPT, flanged, and socketweld configurations. In addition, union vessel connections help accommodate small variations in center-to-center dimensions. This flexibility helps simplify installation when exact alignment proves difficult in the field.

Series-Specific Bonnet and Seat Designs

Each series gives users a clear design path. Series 100 and 300 models include integral bonnet construction. Series 200 and 400 models include union bonnet construction. Additionally, Series 100 and 300 models use integral seats, while Series 200 and 400 models use screwed-in threaded renewable seats. This helps teams choose between simpler construction and maintenance-focused seat replacement options.

Union or Rigid Gauge Connection Choices

Penberthy offers union gauge connection models and rigid gauge connection models. Union gauge connection models include 120, 220, 320, and 420. Rigid gauge connection models include 130, 230, 330, and 430. Because installations vary, this choice helps teams match the valve connection style to the gauge assembly and site requirements.

Built for Process Applications

These valves support direct reading flat glass gauge installations in petroleum, chemical, and general process applications. The Series 300 and 400 models include wetted internal screw threads and can be supplied with forged carbon steel, low-temperature carbon steel, or 316 stainless steel materials. Optional materials are also available for specific process requirements.

Maintenance and Cleaning Support

The offset pattern on Series 300 and 400 models helps make cleaning easier. By removing vent and drain plugs or other connections, maintenance teams can open a straight passage through the gauge chamber. Then, they can insert a brush through the vent and drain connections to clean the glass with less disassembly. This practical design can help reduce maintenance time in applications where buildup affects visibility.

Applications

Penberthy Series 100, 200, 300 and 400 flat glass gauge valves support process applications where operators need to isolate, drain, service, or maintain direct reading gauge assemblies.

  • Petroleum and oil and gas process applications
  • Chemical and petrochemical facilities
  • General process industry installations
  • Direct reading flat glass gauge assemblies
  • Gauge glass isolation and maintenance points
  • Vessel level indication systems
  • Applications requiring upper and lower gaugecock pairs
  • Process installations requiring NPT, flanged, or socketweld connections
  • Low pressure steam and water applications, where suitable configurations apply
