Penberthy RL & TL Direct Reading Liquid Level Gauges

Penberthy RL & TL Direct Reading Liquid Level Gauges provide a clear, mechanical liquid level reference for low-pressure process applications. These flat glass gauges help operators view liquid levels directly as the fluid rises and falls inside the gauge chamber. They require no electrical power, so they work well in remote sites and areas where power interruptions may affect other instruments.

The RL model uses a reflex-style viewing design. The TL model uses a transparent-style viewing design that allows operators to see the level and liquid characteristics. Both models support low-pressure liquid level measurement in petroleum, chemical, and general process applications. They are not recommended for steam/water applications.

Westech Industrial supplies Penberthy RL & TL direct reading level gauges in Western Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Our team can help with product selection, application review, service support, and integration with broader level measurement solutions. Westech also supports projects with custom fabrication capabilities, including panels, analyzer shelters, sample systems, and integrated industrial solutions.

Description

Clear Direct Level Indication

Penberthy RL & TL direct reading level gauges give operators a simple visual reference for liquid level. Because the operator views the process fluid through flat glass, the gauge provides an easy-to-understand indication without relying on power, electronics, or signal interpretation. This makes the gauge useful for local confirmation, field checks, and verification of other level technologies.

Reflex and Transparent Viewing Styles

The RL model uses a reflex-style design with one vision slot. Light reflects differently above and below the liquid level, which helps operators identify the interface between the liquid and gas space. This style provides a strong visual contrast for many common process applications.

The TL model uses a transparent-style design with vision slots on both sides of the chamber. Light enters from the opposite side, allowing operators to view both the level and the liquid characteristics. As a result, the TL model can help when teams need to see colour, clarity, or interface conditions. Illuminators can also improve visibility in darker locations.

Reliable Operation Without Electrical Power

These gauges do not require electrical power. Therefore, they can provide direct liquid level measurement in remote areas or during power interruptions. In addition, their operation remains independent of many liquid characteristics. Multiple liquids can move through the same vessel without concerns related to density, surface turbulence, dielectric conductivity, or similar variables.

Low-Pressure Flat Glass Construction

The RL and TL models use ductile iron covers with carbon steel or stainless steel chambers. They also use tempered borosilicate glass rated to 600°F. This construction supports low-pressure applications where users want a practical and economical level reference. The standard flat gasket seat also helps simplify gasket residue removal during rebuilds.

Configurable for Different Installations

Penberthy RL & TL gauges support end or side connections. Connection options include threaded, socketweld, and flanged styles. The gauges also support glass sizes 1 through 9 and visible lengths from 3¾ inches to 139¾ inches. As a result, users can select a configuration that fits the vessel, viewing needs, and installation layout.

Options for Protection and Visibility

Transparent TL gauges can use optional shields to help extend glass life in corrosive environments. Frost-proof extensions can help reduce frost buildup over the viewing area in low-temperature service. Gauge scales can also attach to the cover, giving operators a graduated readout in standard units.

For offshore or corrosive environments, optional offshore coating 2600 protection can provide an additional protective option. NACE wetted materials also support sour gas service requirements when the application calls for them.

Applications

Penberthy RL & TL direct reading level gauges support low-pressure liquid level measurement where operators need a local visual reference. They suit applications where teams need straightforward level confirmation, process visibility, or verification of other level instruments.

  • Petroleum process applications
  • Chemical processing
  • General process industries
  • Remote sites without reliable power
  • Liquid level verification applications
  • Applications requiring visual inspection of liquid characteristics with TL gauges
  • Sour gas service when selected with NACE wetted materials
  • Corrosive environments when selected with suitable materials, coating, or shields
