Jerguson® Magnicator® Magnetic Level Indicator (Clark Reliance)
The Jerguson® Magnicator® magnetic level indicator gives operators a clear, local view of liquid level. A sealed float moves inside an external chamber as the vessel level changes. Its permanent magnet assembly rotates the indicator flags without contacting the process liquid.
The external indicator remains completely isolated from the liquid. Therefore, the Magnicator eliminates glass-sealing leak paths found in traditional sight glasses. It also improves visibility and can reduce routine maintenance. These advantages make it well suited for flammable, toxic, corrosive, high-pressure, and cryogenic services.
Jerguson offers configurations for standard processes, dirty liquids, low-light areas, extreme temperatures, and high-pressure applications. Available options include wide indicators, hermetically sealed indicators, LED illumination, switches, transmitters, tracing, insulation, and magnetic particle traps.
Westech Industrial supplies the Jerguson Magnicator magnetic level indicator Canada-wide. Our team can support application reviews, product selection, service requirements, system upgrades, and custom fabrication. Westech can also incorporate level indication into larger fabricated or packaged process solutions.

Description
Focused Magnetic Coupling for Reliable Indication
The Magnicator float uses two 360-degree annular Alnico 8 ring magnets with opposing north poles. This arrangement directs a focused magnetic field toward the external indicator. The float produces a magnetic field strength of 90 Gauss at the flag indicator.
As the float moves, the magnetic field rotates the flags to show the liquid level. The same magnetic field can also activate compatible switches and transmitters. Therefore, the magnetic level indicator supports both visual indication and expanded level monitoring.
Highly Visible WF Series Wide Indicator
The WF Series indicator provides a 1.5-inch or 38.1 mm viewing width. This wide design helps operators confirm level conditions quickly and from a greater distance.
Jerguson builds each flag with stainless steel precision-stamped components and a permanent ceramic magnet. Dual rotation points support smooth movement. Furthermore, the flags magnetically attract adjacent flags of the same colour. This design helps resist shock, vibration, skipped flags, and missed indication.
Yellow and black bi-colour flags come standard. Red and white flags are also available as an option.
Robust Schedule 40 Chamber Construction
The standard Magnicator magnetic level indicator uses a 2½-inch Schedule 40 chamber. Jerguson also offers Schedule 80 and Schedule 160 options for higher-pressure requirements.
The chamber design complies with ASME B31.1 power piping and ASME B31.3 process piping requirements. Jerguson performs hydrostatic testing at 1.5 times the column rating, typically limited by the flange rating.
Standard cylindrical floats use full-penetration autogenous welds. This process joins the float sections without filler metal. As a result, it creates a smooth surface that supports unrestricted float movement.
Process-Isolated Visual Level Measurement
The indicator mounts outside the chamber and never contacts the process liquid. This separation removes the glass seals associated with traditional sight glasses. Consequently, facilities can reduce potential leak paths in hazardous or environmentally sensitive services.
The magnetic level indicator also provides immediate visual feedback without electrical power. Operators can confirm changing levels directly at the vessel or process equipment.
Broad Pressure, Temperature, and Material Options
Magnicator configurations cover pressures from full vacuum to 3,500 PSIG or 241 BarG. Available process temperatures range from -325°F to 1,000°F, or -198°C to 538°C. Actual limits depend on the selected chamber, float, materials, connections, and accessories.
Column materials include several stainless steel grades, Alloy 20, Hastelloy®, Monel®, titanium, Inconel®, zirconium, AL-6XN®, and SMO 254®. Non-metallic and coated options include CPVC, PVDF, PFA, and Kynar®.
Standard measurement lengths range from 12 to 240 inches. Jerguson can also supply lengths up to 60 feet for suitable applications.
Severe-Service Indicator Options
The hermetically sealed flag indicator supports offshore, cryogenic, corrosive, and other severe environments. Jerguson purges the indicator with inert gas and permanently seals the housing.
A 316 stainless steel housing provides corrosion resistance. IP68-rated construction is also available. Polycarbonate tubing supports process temperatures up to 500°F. Glass tubing with fused glass end seals supports temperatures up to 1,000°F.
Options for Dirty and Solids-Bearing Service
Oversized chamber designs create additional clearance around the float. Internal guide rods keep the float aligned near the indicator while leaving space for suspended solids.
This configuration helps reduce float binding when buildup occurs. It can also allow chamber flushing without removing the float. Therefore, facilities can reduce downtime and avoid unnecessary gasket replacement.
Optional Level Measurement Accessories
The Magnicator can support compatible switches and transmitters when an application requires additional level monitoring. These devices mount outside the chamber and remain isolated from the process liquid.
NightStar LED Illumination and Temperature Management
NightStar® LED illumination makes the mechanical flag indicator visible during nighttime or low-light operation. The LED array provides high-contrast viewing from several positions. It can also reduce the time operators spend near process equipment.
Additional accessories include electric tracing, steam tracing, high-temperature insulation, and cryogenic insulation. Cryogenic packages use a non-frost acrylic extension to keep the indicator visible through the insulation.
Applications
The Jerguson Magnicator magnetic level indicator supports applications requiring dependable local indication without direct process contact. Its broad range of chambers, floats, materials, and accessories allows configuration for many industrial conditions.
- Condensate tanks and utility systems
- Oil and gas production equipment
- Refining and petrochemical process vessels
- Chemical processing and corrosive services
- LNG and cryogenic liquid storage
- Industrial gas production and handling
- Ethane, methane, propane, butane, and propylene service
- Liquid nitrogen and carbon dioxide systems
